Once we've found our list of competitive keywords and want to go deeper into the research process, you first need to identify your competitors.

To use the competitor analysis tool we simply enter the URL of our website and the keyword or phrase of our topic for which we want to position, and perform the search.

Search engines use keywords as a starting point when filtering results, so it is important to know how to use keywords in the content of a web page so that the page is more likely to be found, indexed and ranked.

  • The body of your content should naturally include the chosen keywords.
  • The content should be of high quality, accurate, unique and attractive.
  • The main keyword chosen and by which you want to be found, should appear in the url of the page, in the title and in the main heading H1.
  • The keyword should also be highlighted in the content using bold and appear in some secondary headings h2 or h3.
  • The keyword should also appear in the description of some images of the page content.
  • Once we read all the content of the page and observe that we already have a high quality and rewarding content, we must observe that the chosen keyword is inside the content at least 5% of the total words of the text.

  1. We look for the competition for the topic for which we want to position.
  2. How these competition pages are positioned according to those keywords.
  3. Create a list in Excel of all the titles and pages that we are analyzing.
  4. Use the Google Keyword Planner.

If we want to position a website for jackets, we will directly search for jackets in Google.
On the first page of Google we will see 10 results from web pages that show content about jackets.

A web positioned according jackets word is "asos.com". We will use Google to do the search for "site:asos.com "jackets"".

We will find the list of pages related to asos.com that are positioned according to the keyword "jackets". 
We will get ideas for titles and more keywords for which we can rank our website pages.
We can do this with each of the pages in the Google list and create a list in Excel of all the titles and pages we are analyzing.
Finally we will have a huge list of possibilities of pages that we can rank for in Google.

Use the Google Keyword Planner

With the list of phrases and keywords made in Excel, we can use Google's keyword planner to analyze each one and see which ones are more successful within the Google search engine, that is, which ones have the highest search index.
To be able to use the Google keyword planner we must register:

  • Create an account in Google Ads
  • Follow the prompts on the screen until you get an option to switch to expert mode.
  • Create an account with a campaign.
  • Confirm the details of your business.
  • In Tools and settings in the panel at the top, we look for the Keyword Planner.
  • Click on Discover new keywords.
  • Select "Start with a website".
  • Enter the URL of the page to analyze
  • Select options such as country and language and Get results.
